Jaipur, 25th  September 2026 : IIHMR University hosted a special Book Talk on “Swami Vivekananda for Our Times”, featuring distinguished diplomat and scholar Ambassador Rajiv Sikri, who edited and compiled the volume. The session brought together students, faculty members and members of the academic community for a thought-provoking discussion on Swami Vivekananda’s enduring ideas and their relevance to contemporary India and the world.

The Book Talk was moderated by Ambassador Satish C. Mehta, Member, Board of Management, IIHMR University. Dr. Ashok Agarwal, Founder Trustee, IIHMR, and Dr. P. R. Sodani, President, IIHMR University, were also present at the event.

The book, “Swami Vivekananda for Our Times”, explores the relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy and vision in addressing the challenges of a rapidly changing world. The discussion examined how his thoughts on nation-building, individual development, social responsibility and India’s role in the world continue to offer perspectives for contemporary society.

Dr. PR Sodani, President, IIHMR University, shared, “Swami Vivekananda’s ideas continue to resonate because they speak to questions that remain central to society, how we develop our capabilities, strengthen our sense of responsibility and contribute to nation-building. At a time when India is navigating significant social, economic and global transformations, engaging with his thought offers an opportunity to reflect on the values that can guide this journey.”

The session provided students and participants with an opportunity to engage with questions around India's civilizational thought, leadership, social transformation and the country's aspirations in a changing global environment. The conversation also highlighted the importance of revisiting foundational ideas and interpreting them in the context of present-day societal and global challenges.

Ambassador Rajiv Sikri, who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1970, drew upon his extensive diplomatic experience and scholarship in discussing the book and the continuing relevance of Swami Vivekananda's ideas. During his diplomatic career spanning more than three decades, Ambassador Sikri served in important assignments in Moscow, New York, Paris and Kathmandu, and was also the Ambassador of India to Kazakhstan. He retired as Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
